Authentic Chengdu in Watchung

Authentic Chengdu is not very formal, though they do have table cloths. The waiter that we had was very nice to the kids at our table. He was friendly and helpful. The sign of a kid friendly Chinese restaurant to me is that they bring crunchy noodles almost as soon as you sit down. Authentic Chengdu did just that, and I didn't have to wait long for the rest of the meal either.

I ordered the beef with mixed vegetables and my brother got his favorite, General Tso's chicken. He got delicious, all white meat chicken (my dad said it was the best General Tso's he's ever had). My friend, Nina, who likes spicy food, got the Szechuan chicken salad and was delighted with what she got. I wasn't a big fan of the fried rice but the rest was really good!

If you are a kid who likes Chinese food, then this place is pretty good. You can always get sweet and sour chicken with sauce on the side if you want something that tastes more American.

Some of the food is pretty oily – but what did you expect from Chinese food! The chicken was all white meat and the vegetables were fresh. As long as you don't pick the deep fried stuff, you are good!

Authentic Chengdu is not that loud at all. In fact, it was pretty quiet.  This is not a crowded restaurant, like some of the other ones I have reviewed. If you are a kid who likes a quiet meal, then Authentic Chengdu is a good place for you.

My mom has created a "restaurant bag" for places like this. A restaurant bag contains markers, crayons, paper and other table activities to keep my brother and other younger children who happen to be with us entertained. Although the noodles keep you busy for a little while, you will get bored after a few minutes. There is no kids menu. We just ordered off of the adult lunch menu, so there is nothing to color.
