Sliders Out, Spanish Food In

A new restaurant has replaced Steve Sliders and Dogs on East Second Street.

Fans of will have to look elsewhere for their traditional American fare.

As of last Saturday, a new restaurant is now located in the 1731 E. Second Street storefront: Daisy's Restaurant.

A Spanish-influenced restaurant serving both lunch and dinner, Daisy's Restaurant is the first venture into the restaurant business by Perth Amboy residents Arlene and Deyison Lopez. The husband-and-wife team officially opened their doors this past weekend.

Lopez said she and her husband just recently decided to open their own restaurant and were driving around one day when they saw a "business for lease" sign outside Steve's Sliders. They sat down and talked to owner Steven Capodicasa about the deal about a month ago.

Capodicasa, a Scotch Plains native who owns a catering company and teaches classes at Classic Thyme in Westfield, opened his burger and hot dog joint back in May. At the time, he told Patch he was hoping the restaurant could be a local hangout for sports teams, families, and other groups.

“I have a gourmet background, but I wanted to open up a more family-friendly establishment,” Capodicasa said at the time.

No word yet on what happened to Steve's Sliders. Calls to Capodicasa on Monday were not immediately returned.

At Daisy's Restaurant, patrons will find a variety of options. The restaurant offers roasted chicken, beef, oxtails, fried meat pies and other Spanish staples.

Lopez said her husband brings with him his experience from working as a cook in a Spanish restaurant in Queens for a couple of years. She said they've been putting out fliers locally since they're opening to spread the word.

"Hopefully it goes well," she said.
