SPF Raiders 9U White Baseball Team Makes It to Championship Game

SPF 9U White Travel Baseball team makes it to the Championship game!

While most nine year old boys have spent their summer at pools, the beach or in camps, this determined group of boys spent their days on the baseball field.  The SPF 9U white team members are a diverse group from all over the town coming together for the joy of baseball and to win!

They are a special group that immediately bonded.  They brought out the best in each other and always had kind words of encouragment.  It was the games that were narrowly lost when we saw the best in the boys but their compassion was also for other teams who we dominated.  There was never any showmanship or trash talking.  Their willingness to learn and listen to the skillful coaches of Amado Lugo, Paul Harris, Steve Ciccarello and Ralph Ramos, helped earn them a winning season.

On Wednesday July 25th our SPF 9U team hosted the Westfield Black team at Booth Field.  This nail biting game resulted in a come from behind win and put the boys into the championship game for their bracket.  On Friday 7/27 the Raiders hosted the Millburn Cyclones for the championship game.

Although the Raiders lost with a score of 8-7, it was a great evenly matched game with both teams taking the lead several times.  After such an emotional game instead of prolonged tears and frustration the coaches were able to channel the feelings into hope and pride.

They left the field with trophies, smiles and a feeling of accomplishment.  The season was celebrated immediately afterward at South St Cafe.

Although the season is now officially over this Raiders team was given the opportunity to play in the big leagues.  They wil participate in an exhibition game at the Newark Bears Stadium against Holbrook on Saturday 8/4.  Good Luck Raiders!!!
