5 Things: Danielle Steel Researcher, Ground-Breaking Ceremony and More

The events and issues to keep in mind today.

  1. The hosts Nancy Eisenbarth, long-time research assistant to Danielle Steel and a Fanwood resident. Eisenbarth will discuss what it takes to conduct research for a potential (and given Steel's track record, often probable) best-seller. The program is free, but reservations are required due to limited seating. Call 908-322-6400 to reserve a seat. The event starts at 7 p.m., and will be preceded by the Friends of the Fanwood Memorial Library's annual meeting. 
  2. Fanwood hosts a groundbreaking ceremony for the new retail and residential property planned for the corner of Martine Avenue and South Avenue. The event starts at 10 a.m.
  3. Comedian Howie Mandel performs at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway.
  4. The Board of Trustees meets at 7:30 p.m.
  5. The Fanwood Environmental Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Fanwood Community House. [Update, 9:15 a.m. May 19: This meeting has been cancelled, according to a press release distributed by the commission.]
