5 Things: Fanwood's Party in the Park

The events and issues to keep in mind today.

  1. The Fanwood Recreation Commission holds its fifth annual "Party in the Park" from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in LaGrande Park. The event features rides, games, food vendors and, starting at 8:30, a screening of the critically-acclaimed film, "How to Train Your Dragon." The film runs from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Viewers are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and bug spray. The rain date is Wednesday.   2. The Best Friend Thrift Shop in Scotch Plains hosts its annual Fourth of July Sale by offering 50 to 60 percent off most goods. The sale starts today and continues through Saturday, July 9. .
  3. The Scotch Plains Public Library hosts the final installment of its "Basic Computer Classes for Job Seekers." The program starts at 12 p.m. and will focus on Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
  4. The Westfield Presbyterian Church's "Searching for Work Group" holds its weekly meeting at 9 a.m. in the church's Jim Cole Room.
  5. Those who are musically inclined are invited to Garlic Rose Bistro on North Avenue in Cranford for "Sing For Your Supper," a fundraiser for The Theater Project. Admission costs $40 per person, and includes appetizers, pasta buffet and entertainment. The event will also include a cash bar. .
