5 Things: Film Festival to Feature Former NY Yankee

The events and issues to keep in mind today.

  1. The Scotch Plains Mayor and Township Council meet for a budget workshop session at 5 p.m., followed by their regular monthly conference meeting at 7 p.m. For the meeting agendas, click the PDF thumbnails at right. 
  2. The Fanwood Mayor and Borough Council convenes a special meeting on shared services at 6 p.m., followed by its regular monthly agenda meeting at 7:30. Both meetings will take place in Borough Hall.
  3. The three-part Spring Film Festival continues today with "Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story." The movie will be shown at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the AMC Loews Theater on Route 22 in Mountainside. Both screenings will feature special appearances from former New York Yankee Ron Blomberg and author Dan Schlossberg. Admission is free to the first 100 Camp Yachad campers (limit two per adult); $12 for JCC members, seniors over 65 and students; $14 for the general public and $6 for children ages 12 and younger. .
  4. A 10-week fitness program for girls in grades 3-5 is underway at Roosevelt Intermediate School in Westfield. "Girls on the Run," which is being held in 14 towns across the state, offers "an experiential learning, non-profit prevention program" geared toward "building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health with training for a 3.1-mile (5K) event," according to the event listing on Patch.
