5 Things: Group Walks, New Locomotive, Cover Bands and More

  1. Club West Nutrition of Fanwood invites residents to take part in free "Group Walks," taking place every Wednesday at 1 p.m. and every Saturday at 11 a.m. All walkers will meet at Club West for a health breakfast or lunch, followed by the walk. To register, call 908-322-2100, or .
  2. If you work in the area around Newark Penn Station, consider taking an early lunch break to stroll over to Track A. New Jersey Transit will be unveiling its new dual-powered locomotive stating at about 11:15 a.m. The locomotive, built by Bombardier and the first of its kind in North America, can operate on both electrified and non-electrified track, according to a press release distributed by NJ Transit. The agency is ordering 26 of the locomotives to replace its aging diesel fleet.
  3. The Scotch Plains Management Corporation, the administrative body of the township's downtown district, meets at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room of the Municipal Building.
  4. Think you've got the best cover band? Simply looking for some good rock and roll? Then head over to Shannon Rose in Woodbridge every Wednesday through July 27 for "The Ultimate Cover Band" competition. .
  5. Barnes and Noble of Springfield's "Books By and About Women" discussion group meets at 7:30 p.m. to take-up "The 19th Wife" by David Ebershoff.
