5 Things: Transit Advisories, Armchair Tour of Plainfield, Memorial Day

The events and issues to keep in mind today.

  1. New Jersey Transit will offer "Early Getaway" service Friday, with extra outbound trains operating on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris and Essex, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines, starting at about 1 p.m., according to the agency's website. Extra buses will operate from the Port Authority Bus Terminal on more than two dozen routes, starting at about noon. 
  2. Those traveling outbound, or west, beyond Rahway Station, should expect about 10-minute delays, due to track work being performed by Amtrak near Rahway Station. On Monday, trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule on all lines. Bus schedules will vary by route. 
  3. Standard bicycles and Segways will be prohibited from New Jersey Transit trains on Sunday and Monday, according to the agency's website. Collapsible bicycles, however, will still be permitted.
  4. Scotch Plains-Fanwood's Memorial Day observances start at 8 a.m. .
  5. Barnes and Noble on Route 22 in Springfield hosts "Cat in the Hat Storytime" at 11 a.m. Saturday, featuring visits from some of Dr. Seuss' most well-loved characters, according to event listing on Patch. .
