Award winning actress Elaine Bromka portrays three presidential First Ladies - Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon and Betty Ford, in a one-woman play written by Eric H. Weinberger. One day free performance on Sunday, Feb. 27th at 3pm at the Library.

The Union County Commission on the Status of Women Excellence Awards is honoring two Fanwood women at their annual dinner on March 25th.

Adele Kenny is being honored for her work in the arts and humanities fields. She is the author of 23 books in poetry and nonfiction, and also the founder and director of the Carriage House Poetry Reading Series, which she started in 1998. Ms. Kenny is also the Arts Council Director at the Patricia Kuran Arts Center in Fanwood. She taught English and creative writing in the Rahway Public Schools for 20 years.

Phyllis Mirabella, an assistant vice-president at Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, and wife of Union County Freeholder Al Mirabella, is being honoroed for her civic and community leadership. She is a member of the Leadership Training Conference LTC), which is a part of the New Jersey Association of Student Councils (NJASC). For 12 years she has served as a senior counselor and in the past two years, she served on the Coordinating Committee (Board of Directors). She recently organized a mini LTC session for 105 students at Park and Terrill Middle Schools. Mrs. Mirabella also serves on the Board of Directors of the Education Enrichment Foundation.

Blockbuster on South Ave. Closing April 10th

The Blockbuster video store in Plainfield on South Avenue announced it will be closing on April 10th. The last day for rentals will be this Thursday, Feb. 24th. After that, the store will only do retail sales of items in stock. The nearest store is at 7000 Hadley Road in South Plainfield.
