About Town: Summer Programs, Support Group, Concert and More

Scotch Plains Summer Recreation Programs Coming Soon
The Scotch Plains Recreation Commission is kicking off its summer season of programs, including youth sports camps, hobby classes, music programs, Spanish lessons, senior programs and more. The also has a special for June: It’s "Women’s Golf Month" and every Thursday in June is 2-for-1 for female golfers. Learn more about the department's programs and register at www.scotchplainsnj.com. Children's Knitting and Crocheting Classes
Fanwood and Scotch Plains residents ages 8 to 13 are invited to register for the  six-week knitting and crocheting class. The class meets for six consecutive Thursday mornings, starting July 14. To register or learn more, call 908-322-6400.

Divorce and Separation Support Group for Children
The introduces a free "Children of Separation and Divorce" support group for residents in grades three through six. The group meets 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday, starting June 8, at the center’s office, located at 1830 Front Street in Scotch Plains. Concert June 12th
 hosts the Imperial Brass ensemble for a spring concert Sunday on at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance and at the door. Admission is $15 for members of the general public, $12 for seniors and students and free for those 12 and younger. Free Blood-Pressure Screening at the Scotch Plains Library
The Scotch Plains Health Department offers a free blood-pressure screening clinic on Tuesday, June 14, at the , from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Everyone can participate, and those who are over 30, smoke or have a family history of diabetes or heart disease are especially encouraged to take part, particularly if they have never had their blood pressure checked before.

Trip to Atlantic City
The Scotch Plains Golden Agers Club is hosting a bus trip to Atlantic City’s Showboat Casino on Thursday, June 16. The bus will leave at 9:30 a.m. that day from the Scotch Hills Golf Club parking lot. The event costs $20 per person, and the casino provides $30-credit for slot play.
