C.H.I.L.D. Parenting Workshop on Wednesday

The C.H.I.L.D. organization of Scotch Plains-Fanwood hosts two parenting experts on Wednesday, at 7:15 p.m. in the Scotch Plains TV studio, located in the basement of the Municipal Building. The topic is, “Parenting with Respect, Encouragement and Love." Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP, as seating may be limited. To reserve a seat, call 908-322-4020.

Raise a flag at home and come out to watch or march in the annual Scotch Plains-Fanwood Memorial Day Parade on Monday. The day begins with an observance at 8 a.m. at the  post in Scotch Plains, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony outside the at 9 a.m., a wreath presentation at the Veterans Monument in Scotch Plains at 10 a.m., and then the parade at 10:45. The parade will start at Park Avenue and Front Street, proceed south along Park Avenue and Martine Avenue and conclude at in Fanwood.

Caregiver Support Group Presentation on Alzheimers

The Caregiver Support Group at in Scotch Plains hosts, “Communication: Key to Understanding Behaviors and Changes in Our Loved Ones,” featuring Amy Matthews, associate director for late-stage dementia care, education and outreach for the Greater New Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The program will take place next Wednesday, June 1, at 6 p.m. The event is free, but pre-registration by phone is required. Call 732-499-6118.

Free Computer Classes at Union County College in Scotch Plains

Union County College will offer free basic computer-skills courses to job seekers at the , weekly starting on June 7 from noon to 4 p.m. To learn more and register for these classes, call 908-322-5007, ext. 204.

Red Cross Raffle – Special Offer for Patch Readers
The American Red Cross is holding a raffle for a new Volvo, with a second prize of a Miele appliance package and third prize of two first-class Continental Airline tickets. The drawing is June 9. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold. Tickets normally cost $100 each, but the first 10 Patch readers to enter will receive $10 off their tickets. To take advantage of the discount or for more information, email fanwoodmike@aol.com. All proceeds benefit the American Red Cross, which supports Fanwood, Scotch Plains and other towns in Union County.
