Blotter: SP Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault, Weapons Possession

The following arrest information was supplied by the Scotch Plains Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

arrested a township resident after he barreled through a roadblock last Friday, Aug. 12, according to a press release distributed by the police department. 

Keith Sari, 62, of Carri Farm Court, reportedly drove his vehicle up to an officer, who was blocking Raritan Road at Rahway Road because contractors were paving Raritan Road. Sari demanded to be let in, and when the officer told him that the pavement was still wet, Sari became irate and started yelling obscenities.

"I don't care, I'm going through and you're not stopping me," Sari said, according to the press release. He then allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road and attempted to run over the officer, who managed to get out of the way and stop Sari's vehicle. The officer took Sari out of the vehicle and placed him under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Thefts

  • The manager of a Route 22 gas station reported Monday, Aug. 8, that a suspect received $67 worth of gas and fled without paying.
  • On Aug. 16, a resident of Front Street reported that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects stole his motorcycle, which was parked in his driveway and valued at about $800.
  • On Aug. 18, a resident of Gary Court told police that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects swiped his skateboard, which was valued at about $240.
  • Also on Aug. 18, a resident of Bartle Avenue reported that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects stole a decorative statue from the front of his house.

Fraud

  • A resident of Lake Avenue told police Tuesday, Aug. 9, that she received a call from a suspect who told her that she had won a prize, but would need to provide her Social Security number and date of birth to claim it. The victim stated that she did not give the information and hung up. The suspect reportedly called back several times. 
  • Also on Aug. 9, a resident of Monica Place told police that she received a call from her bank stating that an unknown suspect or suspects withdrew about $3,000 from her account without her authorization. 
  • On Aug. 15, a resident of Myrtle Avenue reported that an unknown suspect or suspects made several hundred dollars in purchases with her credit card without her authorization.
  • The following day, a resident of Park Avenue told police that an unknown suspect or suspects withdrew about $4,000 from her checking account without her authorization. She said she was notified by her bank.

Burglaries

  • A resident of Willow Avenue told police Sunday, Aug. 15, that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects entered his vehicle and removed several items valued at about $780. The vehicle was parked in the driveway, and entrance was gained by breaking the passenger-side window. 

DWI

  • Police arrested Christopher Trawick, 27, of Montclair, for driving while intoxicated. On Monday, Aug. 15, officers stopped Trawick for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and, upon speaking with him, detected a strong odor of alcohol. After administering several field sobriety tests, which Trawick failed, the officers placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • On Aug. 17, police arrested Robert Talmo, 23, of Jacobs Lane in Scotch Plains, for driving while intoxicated. Officers stopped Talmo for a motor vehicle violation and, upon speaking with him, smelled the odor of alcohol. After administering several field sobriety tests, which Talmo failed, the officers placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Forgery

  • Police arrested Robert King, 50, of Irvington, for forgery. On Aug. 15, police were called to a Park Avenue pharmacy on a report of a customer – King – trying to use a fraudulent prescription. Upon verifying that a doctor had not filled-out the prescription, the officers placed King under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Criminal Mischief

  • A business owner on Park Avenue reported Aug. 18 that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects damaged the sign on the front of his building.
  • The following day, a resident of Hoe Avenue told officers that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects threw some kind of liquid on the front of her house.

Warrant Arrests

  • Police arrested Miquel Cruz, 23, of Plainfield, for a $250 outstanding warrant issued by the Somerville court. On Wednesday, Aug. 10, officers stopped Cruz for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • On Aug. 16, police arrested Daniel DeMaurez, 20, of Terrill Road in Scotch Plains, for a $1,500 outstanding warrant issued by the Watchung court. Officers stopped DeMaurez for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • On Aug. 17, police arrested Robert Perriman, 32, of Plainfield, for a $250 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. Officers stopped Perriman for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
