Books are Abundant at Local Sales

The JCC's spring sale goes through Thursday. The Scotch Plains Library's sale begins Saturday.

Spring may be the time to clean up your clutter, but perhaps it's also the perfect opportunity to freshen your bookshelves with some new reads.

Thankfully, local book sales are abound this week in Scotch Plains-Fanwood, and the deals are dangerously good.

The Jewish Community Center of Central NJ kicked off its sale on Sunday. An entire room at the JCC is filled wall to wall with books, including children's, Judaica, travel, fiction, and parenting selections.

"This money goes to our senior services programming, the active adult enrichment program," said Barbara Weisbart, the JCC's Director of Adult Enrichment.

Weisbart said the sale is a longstanding tradition at the JCC. The center also holds a another one in the fall. As of earlier this week, the book sale still had a good number of items. The sale goes through Thursday, and is open from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Children's books start at 50 cents, with larger ones on sale for $1. Adult paperbacks are also 50 cents; soft covers $1; and hardcovers $2.

"We'd still love people to come in," Weisbart said.

If you're still left wanting more, the Scotch Plains Public Library will come to your rescue this weekend. The annual Friends of the Library book sale kicks off this Saturday. The group has been collecting donations from residents since January and actually had to stop accepting them due to the overwhelming response.

This weekend is the children's book sale. Saturday's hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday's are noon to 3 p.m.

Adult books go on sale starting Thursday, March 18, but Friends of the Library members get to attend a preview Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. Those interested in joining the group may do so at the door to gain admission.

The book sale goes from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday (half price day); and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday ($5 bag sale day).
