Contests Abound at 16th Annual Fanny Wood Day

The celebration takes place Oct. 2.

Whether you’re famous for blowing bubbles or devouring ice cream, you take fantastic photographs or can toss a football with precision - there’s a contest for you at the 16th Annual Fanny Wood Day to be held on Sunday, Oct. 2, according to a press release distributed by the Fanny Wood Day Committee.

The Fanny Wood Day program has more opportunities to be a winner this year by offering several different contests for local residents or out-of-town visitors.  Regardless of your talent, everyone is a winner, thanks to the support of local area merchants.

Got a way with a camera? Then how about submitting your favorite print of Fanwood’s people, places or things for our “Foto’s of Fanwood” contest. The shots will be displayed at an exhibit Friday, Sept. 30, at the from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The photos and winners will then be announced at Fanny Wood Day. The ice cream eating contest returns for its fifth season! If you can handle a slight brain freeze, this contest, sponsored by Double Dipper Café, may be just for you. Advanced registration is recommended if you want to reserve a spot, so swing by Double Dipper to register.

Calling all gum chewers! Provident Bank is sponsoring Fanny Wood Day’s third annual Bubble Gum Blowing Contest for kids of all ages. Contestants can compete throughout the day beginning at 1:15 p.m. Gum will be provided and judges will determine the prize categories, which may include largest bubble, smallest bubble, funniest break, and most bubbles blown. The winner will receive a gift certificate or savings bond from .

A large children’s amusement area, sponsored by Fanwood-Westfield Cardiology, will again feature a number of rides from 12:30 to 4 p.m. All-day access will cost $10 per person.

“Last year we had a record breaking crowd and we are proud that Fanny Wood Day has become such a welcome addition to our community,” Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr said in the press release. “The great thing about Fanny Wood Day is that it’s more than just a street fair and we encourage everyone to join us for this great hometown experience.”

Fanny Wood Day will be held at the corner of Martine Avenue and South Avenue in downtown Fanwood. The event begins at 11 a.m. and will continue until 5 p.m.
