Editor's Notebook: Week in Review

A look back at the past week's news and events.

What did this past week have in store? All sorts in the way of Scotch Plains-Fanwood news.

We started Monday by giving you a full update on the Terrill Middle solar panel project, then let you know that Scotch Plains' native and b-ball star Ashton Gibbs was named to the Big East Second Team and earned the title of Most Improved Player. We also gave you the scoop on Gov. Christie's state budget, per comments from his chief of staff. And, in honor of the wonderful weather, brought you photos of the first signs of spring.

On Tuesday, we filled you in on the proposal to put a cell phone tower in Hillside Cemetery and gave an update on the coming and going of businesses in downtown Scotch Plains. We also gave you the latest on the indictment of Park Middle School Teacher Sarah Blessing.

Wednesday, we reported on the tense moments from Tuesday night's Fanwood Council meeting, when the mayor and council members continued the debate about Earth Hour. Girl scouts were also honored at the meeting, and we brought you a story on that and on the continued work on the borough's 2010 budget.

On Thursday, we gave you the superintendent's comments on the indictment of Sarah Blessing. We were also at the district's offices to find out in which order the Board of Education candidates will appear on the April ballot. Also, Scotch Plains police reports from the past week included multiple drug arrests and other incidents.

Fanwood mom Deirdre Coolidge's column started off Friday. This week she shared her experiences trying to walk and bike in the borough admist hectic drivers. We also gave you a preview of the JCC's 2nd annual Kids' Fun Fest and of the SP-F Repertory Theatre's production of "Curtains."
