Fanny Wood Day Festivities Planned Throughout Afternoon

The 14th annual event runs through 5 p.m.

The 14th annual Fanny Wood Day is kicking off shortly in downtown Fanwood. This year, there's lots of fun to be had in honor of the borough's first lady.

The event will begin with an open ceremony led by the Union County Sheriff’s Color Guard and the Sheriff’s Drum and Fife Band, followed by a march of Fanwoodians, including the 2009 Mr. and Mrs. Fanwood, Doug and Mary Anne Germinder, down Martine Avenue.

Music, cars, games and more — they’ll all be available for entertainment during the event, which runs through 5 p.m.

Here’s a look at the schedule for the day:

11 a.m. – A classic car show, featuring over 75 vintage vehicles, begins. Vendors open.

12 p.m. - Opening Ceremony
 with Union County Sheriff's Color Guard
 and Mr. and Mrs. Fanwood and family. All Fanwood residents are invited to march with them down Martine Avenue.

12:15 p.m. - Children's amusement area, sponsored by PNC, opens. 
Zev, an interactive music group for kids, performs.

12:30 p.m. - Children's scavenger hunt
, sponsored by The Sports Place.

1:15 p.m. - Bubble gum blowing contest, sponsored by Provident Bank.

2:00 p.m. - Car judging and award presentation. Ice cream eating contest, 
sponsored by The Double Dipper Cafe.

2:45 p.m. - Bird House Award presentation, sponsored by Fanwood Environmental Commission.

3:00 p.m. - Cover to Cover, a group that plays all the best music of the 60’ssponsored by The Fanwood Arts Council.
