Five Things: Speech-Language Lecture for Parents and Teachers; Cooking Workshop and More

The events and issues to keep in mind today.

  1. The CHILD organization of Scotch Plains and Fanwood hosts a lecture for parents and teachers titled "The Key to Understanding Language." Rachel Fisch-Kaplan, the clinical director and senior speech-language pathologist at CommuniKids, a speech-language and occupational therapy practice with a location in Summit, will discuss the speech and language skills that develop during childhood, and the appropriate levels of mastery that take place at various times. The program, which will take place in the television studio of Scotch Plains TV, located in the basement of the Municipal Building, is free and open to all.   2. The JCC Teaching Kitchens host an evening with Rabbi Gil Marks, author of "Encyclopedia of Jewish Food." Starting at 7 p.m., Marks will demonstrate how to cook traditional Jewish dishes from around the world, and serve tasting samples to all attendees.   3. The Fanwood Youth Baseball Association holds a meeting for parents at 7:30 p.m. at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. All managers, coaches and parents of junior-tee-ball-age children should attend. The meeting will include a brief overview of the league, and time for parents to meet their children's coaches.   4. The Fanwood Downtown Redevelopment Agency meets at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall.
  5. The McGinn Elementary School PTA meets at 9:15 a.m.
