It’s Thursday afternoon, which means it's time to start planning the weekend. Us Patch editors have you covered. We've thrown together a list of the best bets in town this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus some events to keep in mind down the road. Be sure to check out the Clark, Springfield, Summit and Westfield sites, too, for parties, plays and other happenings taking place just over the border.
St. Patrick's Extravaganza, Week One
1. St. Patrick's Day festivities kick-off in Scotch Plains and Fanwood on Saturday with the "Pot of Gold" 5k run/walk at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church. Registration costs $30, and gets you a t-shirt and ticket to a continental breakfast while supplies last. To sign-up, click here. Registration on the day of the race starts at 7:30 a.m., and the race begins at 9:30 a.m.

2. The celebration then continues in Elizabeth, where a delegation from Fanwood, led by resident and Parade Grand Marshall Dave Bell, will lead the parade as it snakes down Morris and Roosevelt Avenues. The pre-parade ceremony starts at noon, and the actual procession hits the road at 1 p.m. sharp.

3. Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School's production of "Hairspray" takes the stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the first of two weekends of performances. .
4. If one musical isn't enough, the JCC of Central New Jersey's youth theater company stages a production of "Bye Bye Birdie" this weekend. .
5. And finally, the in Scotch Plains holds a "Cabaret for Cancer" on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. .

- St. Patrick's Extravaganza, Week Two: It's not too early to get excited for Fanwood's own St. Patrick's Day celebration, taking place next Saturday, March 19, and organized by . Tickets to the event, which cost $5, are on sale now at the pub. Proceeds will benefit local recreation organizations.
- Upcoming Acts at the Wellmont Theatre: Snoop Dogg comes to Montclair on Saturday, March 26. The Gipsy Kings on Saturday, May 14.
