Golf for the Pros, Traffic for the Locals

A tournament in Edison will cause backups, police say.

Scotch Plains and Fanwood drivers should "expect heavy delays" with the start of the Barclay's PGA Golf Tournament on Thursday, according to an email alert sent by Scotch Plains Sgt. Ernesto Hernandez. The tournament, which runs through Sunday, is being played at Plainfield Country Club in Edison. Although no roads will be closed in the township or the borough, "extensive detours" in Edison will likely cause local congestion.

Motorists will not be able to continue on Raritan Road past Inman Avenue, according to Hernandez. All vehicles will be required to make a left at Inman. All motorists on Woodland Avenue traveling toward South Plainfield and Edison will be diverted onto Maple Avenue.

Drivers are asked to steer clear of Raritan Road between Rahway Road and the Edison border, and Woodland Avenue past Randolph Road. Parking along both thoroughfares will be restricted and emergency parking regulations "will be strictly enforced," Hernandez said.
