MyCentralJersey.com: Community Group to Discuss Area Health Services

The group was formed in light of the closure of Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center last year.

A public meeting will be held in Plainfield Tuesday night to discuss the state of health services in the city and its surrounding communities after the closure of Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center last year.

The Community Advisory Group, which includes elected officials, area hospital representatives and community members, is scheduled to meet first in private at 6:15 p.m., and then open the meeting up to the public at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Ave., in Plainfield.

Prior to its closure in July 2008 for financial reasons, Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center was the closest hospital to Scotch Plains and Fanwood. Now, area residents have to travel a few miles further to Overlook Hospital in Summit.
