Rain Garden Workshop Wednesday Night at the Fanwood Memorial Library

Learn how to create a landscaping feature that will control polluted runoff and recharge the groundwater supply.

Learn how to build a rain garden at the Fanwood Memorial Library, Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Fanwood Room. The program is free, and it will be led by members of the Rutgers University Cooperative Research and Extension, the library announced in a press release distributed Tuesday. Some take-home materials will be provided.

A rain garden is a landscaped, shallow depression seeded with native plants. The depression then collects storm water that controls polluted runoff and refills the groundwater supply.

In September 2005, the Rahway River Association and the Rutgers Cooperative built a rain garden outside the Fanwood Library. It now serves as a model for county residents interested in building the gardens.
