Scotch Plains Day Has Been Cancelled

Weather is to blame.

The township of Scotch Plains announced Friday evening that Sunday's Scotch Plains Day has been cancelled.

The annual festival, which was to be held on East Second Street this year, was called off due to an "impending weather forecast of rain and wind," the township's Web site says.

The National Weather service currently predicts a 90 percent chance of rain Saturday, and a 70 percent chance on Sunday. New rainfall on Sunday is expected to be between a quarter and half of an inch.

It's not yet known whether the Lions Club Craft Fair, which was to be held in the municipal parking lot Saturday as part of Scotch Plains weekend, has been cancelled. The Scotch Plains Recreation Department told Patch earlier Friday that the determination would be made based on the weather Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
