Scotch Plains Day Moving to E. Second Street

The event has been held on Park Avenue in the past.

This year's Scotch Plains Day festival will feature many of the same attractions, but its surroundings will look a little bit different.

Members of the Scotch Plains Management Corps. announced last night that the annual event is being moved to E. Second Street this year, instead of its usual Park Avenue location.

The Management Corps. isn't sponsoring Scotch Plains Day, but is aiding the township recreation department in its planning. The recreation department is the one responsible for deciding where the event should be held.

The Management Corps. members said, though, that they hope the event will be an opportunity to promote some of the other businesses in the downtown district.

"The thought was, 'let's do something for the businesses on E. Second Street," Steve Goldberg said.

The event is the culmination of what will be a three-day celebration during the weekend of Oct. 16 to 18. It all starts with a pep rally and bonfire on Evergreen Ballfield that Friday night in anticipation of the big football game against Westfield. On Saturday, the Lions Club will sponsor a crafts fair in conjunction with the farmer's market in the municipal parking lot. Then on Sunday, it's all about Scotch Plains Day, which will feature live music, vendors, food and games from noon to 5 p.m.

The Scotch Plains Day Committee is meeting this afternoon.

If the event goes well, we may see more downtown events being held on E. Second Street in the future. A member of the Management Corps. mentioned that maybe next year's MusicFest could be held there as well.
