Scotch Plains-Fanwood Commuter Chronicles

A lifetime Scotch Plains resident uses the train to commute to work.

In 2009, the Fanwood Train Station celebrated its 135th year in the community. As the oldest station in Union County, it has seen a lot of travelers come through during its time. In honor of this, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Patch has decided to highlight the station and its service by occasionally interviewing commuters about themselves and their train usage.

How long have you lived here?

All my life

Where are you going?

I am going to New York for work.  I work at Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

What is the strangest thing that has ever happened to you on a train trip?

I was riding the train once and it actually broke down.  It was the middle of the night, one of the last trains out, and we all had to exit the train in the dark and walk down the train tracks to another train that came to pick us up.  Another strange thing would be that sometimes I work late and riding some of the last trains home, usually on a Friday night, are very interesting characters that are riding the train with you.

On a double-decker train do you prefer to ride on the top or the bottom?

Going to work I prefer the top, and then coming home I prefer the bottom. I like to switch it up a bit.
