Scotch Plains-Fanwood Commuter Chronicles
A Fanwoodian takes the train into New York City for a meeting.
In 2009, the Fanwood Train Station celebrated its 135th year in the community. As the oldest station in Union County, it has seen a lot of travelers come through during its time. In honor of this, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Patch has decided to highlight the station and its service by occasionally interviewing commuters about themselves and their train usage.

How long have you lived in Fanwood?
1998. So that would be almost 12 years.
Do you have family in Fanwood?
Yes. We have two kids.
Where are you going today?
Into the city for a meeting. It's old friends who I met several years ago when we were in the job search. So we are going back basically to help each other through a job search again.
Do you take the train often?
Yes. Almost every job I have ever had has been in the city, so yes, I commute by train.
Have you had any interesting experiences while riding the train?
So many. Just more dealing with the delays and schedule changes and I can't think of one in particular right now. I can just remember, I think it was five or six years ago, when we had that one month where it was at least two days a week for like a month or a month and half where I had like four hour commutes to get home. It was just delay after delay after delay. It was either weather or there was always something that went on.
And yet you keep taking the train.
It's still better than driving into the city.
