Scotch Plains-Fanwood in Photos: A Day at the Pool

Local swim clubs keep Scotch Plains-Fanwood residents cool and happy during the hot summer days.

On these warm summer days, there is no better place to be than one of Scotch Plains-Fanwood's local swim clubs.

Parents and children alike are drawn to those cool blue waters as a source of summer fun and relaxation. On a recent day this week at Highland Swimming Club, the pool's assistant manager, Jon-Eric Burgess, described the club as a place where "you can enjoy the sun and relax in the shade."

While this was definitely the case at a glance, the pool also boasts a wide array of activities for those who need more action. One mother, Angela Collela, said she is impressed with this pool because of the activities it offers for her kids. In addition to a teen night that offers pizza, games, and music, there are also days when craft activities are arranged for the children. And, everyday, the kids can play games of baseball or play on the playground by the poolside.

While the kids are off from school, they have not stopped learning. Some kids at the pool were in the process of learning to swim. Some learned through lessons given by the pool.

Lifeguard Katelyn Cavanaugh says that teaching swimming lessons is her favorite part of the job. She has been working at the pool for five years now and says she likes "seeing the kids improve every year."

Some kids were learning to swim with the aid and encouragement of their parents. Miranda and Caroline Lemansky were out swimming with their mother. The mother said she loves coming to the pool because the kids "are never tired of it."

Whether they were tanning, swimming, showing off their coolest jumping moves, or getting a little treat from the snack bar, everyone seemed to be enjoying their summer days at the pool.
