The recycling event allows county residents to properly dispose of their unwanted electronics.

Union County has announced that it will host a recycling event for electronic waste in Scotch Plains on July 25.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Union County Vo-Tech Schools, 1776 Raritan Rd.

Residents can drop off their unwanted televisions, computers and other electronics so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally safe way.

“Computer monitors and old televisions are the source of a considerable amount of lead—about five pounds per screen. This is a responsible way to keep hazardous heavy metals out of our environment," said Freeholder Chester Holmes, liaison to the Union County Solid Waste Advisory Board, in a release.

Computer monitors, hard drives, modems, keyboards, CPUs, mice, printers, scanners, speakers, VCRs, fax machines, telephones and circuit boards can also be disposed. Refrigerators, washers and dryers, microwaves, and air conditioners will not be taken.
