Severe Weather Warnings in Effect for Union County

Severe thunderstorms and rain are moving through the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm and flash flood warning for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood area.

Heavy rain has already begun, but the service also says to expect severe thunderstorms capable of producing nickel-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. While a tornado is not immediately likely, it could develop.

Flooding is also predicted, with up to two to three inches of rain expected.

The flood warning is in effect until 4 p.m. The thunderstorm warning is in effect until 8 p.m.
