SPF Prepares for Hurricane Irene

Plus, a list of phone numbers and URLs to keep on hand.

Public works employees are checking storm drains, and the heads of Scotch Plains and Fanwood's emergency departments are meeting with township and borough administrators to prepare for Hurricane Irene's predicted arrival late Saturday or early Sunday. The storm is forecast to bring 5 to 10 inches of rain and winds as high as 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

"The town is monitoring the storm and information from the various agencies closely," Township Manager Christopher Marion said. "I'm not anticipating any problems, but you have to be ready." 

Residents are also asked to check on any elderly neighbors who may need assistance.
