Strong Winds Expected Wednesday

Some gusts may be as high as 50 miles per hour.

A cold front is expected to push strong winds through Scotch Plains, Fanwood and the rest of Union County Wednesday.

The National Weather Service predicts that a cold front will move through the area around 11 a.m., causing strong winds of 25 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour, through the afternoon and into the evening. Winds are expected to weaken Wednesday night, but remain gusty through Thursday, likely resulting in numerous downed tree branches and limbs.

Residents are advised to make sure that outdoor items are secure.
