What do you love most about your Valentine? In the spirit of Valentine’s Day 2012, Patch ventured into the land of greeting cards and heart shaped boxes of chocolate to find out what really tugs at the heart strings of local residents. Many also shared those classic “how we met beginnings” that make every couple unique.
Shirley Davis, of Plainfield, took a break from shopping at the in downtown Fanwood to share her story. While she and her husband are now blessed with three children and seven grandchildren, their love affair began many moons ago when the two locked eyes after a East Orange Central High School football game.
“Years ago, Central High School with hold big school dances after the Thanksgiving Day football game. I actually came to the dance with someone else, but from the moment my husband and I saw each other across the dance floor, there was no turning back,” Davis reminisced.
Katrina Oliver, also of Plainfield has been married to her husband Kevin for 18 years. Oliver, who was born in Sweden, explained that the two met while living in Europe.
“What I love most about my husband is his sense of humor, his kindness, generosity, and the fact that he loves me for who I am,” Oliver expressed.
Gina, of Scotch Plains shared Oliver’s sentiment, stating that what she loves most about her boyfriend is also his sense of humor. Gina and her boyfriend began dating two days after Valentine’s Day in her freshman year of college.
Stephanie Lieberman, seen in the video above has been married to Rich, her husband and father of her two children for ten years. The two met at a friend’s 18th birthday party and have been together ever since. Janis Jones, who also appears in the video, met her husband, Kyle while working at a bank in Upper Montclair. Kyle was working as a manager of a nearby retail store and would come to the bank every day to drop off the deposit.
Seton Hall sophomore and Hallmark employee, Toniann Gattozzi, of Scotch Plains may not have a Valentine this year, but she has an idea of who would qualify as an ideal Valentine.
“My ideal guy is someone who is athletic, funny, honest, and not afraid to be himself. This year I will be going out on Valentine’s Day with a bunch of my single friends. I know that we’ll still have an amazing time,” she said.
