Beckerman Thanks Supporters, Congratulates Jones

Election season comes to a close in Scotch Plains.

This letter to the editor was submitted by Scotch Plains Councilman Lou Beckerman.

To the Editor:

When I made me commitment to run for the unexpired Council term last April, I did so with the full knowledge that any Democrat running in an election with one of the most popular Republican Governors on top of the ticket was going to be a challenge and that the prospect to overcoming that challenge would be difficult at best. I want to thank the countless people who supported my campaign with everything from contributions, to holding meetings with neighbors in their homes, allowing us to place campaign signs on their lawns and volunteered their time making phone calls to their friends and neighbors. Most importantly, I want to thank the voters who cast their vote for the entire Democratic Team.

I was thrilled that our friend, US Senator Cory Booker along with Congressman Rush Holt came to Scotch Plains to campaign with me. Our Democratic Legislators, led by Senator Nick Scutari, Assemblyman and Union County Democratic Chairman Jerry Green and our own amazing Assemblywoman and Scotch Plains Democratic Chairman, Linda Stender for all their support and encouragement. Our Campaign Manager, Deputy Mayor Colleen Gialanella along with our campaign treasurer Theresa Mullen were always available with advise and good counsel.

I want to congratulate my opponent, Llewellyn Jones on his victory. Our campaign was spirited and we made the public aware of issues facing our town. I wish you the very best of luck.
