Democrats Mitchell, Kranz Win in Fanwood

Mitchell will begin her sixth term, while Kranz has earned his first.

Democrats Tom Kranz and Kathy Mitchell have won both seats on Fanwood Council, beating Republican challenger Jean Michelle Moore. For Mitchell, the incumbent, this will be her sixth term on council. Newcomer Kranz was the top vote-getter.

Vote Tallies
Kranz: 1405
Mitchell: 1330
Moore: 1016

The Fanwood Democrats gathered at the Chippery on South Avenue (set to reopen soon under the ownership Brian Walter of Oh' Brian's Pourhouse).

"I'm thrilled to be elected," Mitchell told Patch. "I'm very proud and honored that the voters trust me again. I'm starting my sixth term, which is basically unprecedented, and of course being a woman, that just makes everything great."

While Mitchell begins her sixth term, for Kranz the night's election was a first.

"As the mayor said tonight, I think we feel really lucky here in Fanwood that we have a really strong Democratic base, we had a really strong Democratic organization, because judging by the other results I've seen a lot of the other towns didn't do the same and that's a shame," Kranz told Patch. "I just want to thank the mayor and mostly the voters of Fanwood for having faith in a first timer. I still have lot to learn, but I'm really looking forward to it."

Moore could not be reached for comment.
