Cathleen was diagnosed with Holoprosencephaly (HPE) a birth defect that occurs during the first few weeks of intrauterine life. HPE is a disorder in which the fetal brain does not grow forward and divide as it should during early pregnancy. She wasn’t diagnosed with this disorder until she was 5 yrs. old but has been suffering from severe seizures since 8 months old. Cathleen is now 16 years old and has beaten the life expectancy that doctors gave her for this disorder, but she continues to degenerate each year. She has minimal communication while being confined to a wheel chair but continues to put on that great SMILE!
Joe and Cathy DiFabio have been coping with their daughter’s illness for all these years while only receiving the same medical expenses that those with healthy children get, which is Unfair! Last year’s fundraiser allowed us to raise over $7,000 in one day and the DiFabio’s were able to pay off some of Cathleen’s medical expenses but more cost have piled up this year! They still need a handicapped vehicle, which is extremely costly, to move Cathleen when Joe cannot be there to do so and we’re hoping to raise enough to pay for part of that expense as well as everyday medical expenses…..
Joe DiFabio has been an active softball player in the Scotch Plains Mens Softball League for over 20 years and a dedicated teammate to us all. We hope to raise enough money from this tournament to help the DiFabio family with their current and future expenses!
Please donate any way you can!!
