Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Nov. 25

The annual Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, sponsored by the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Ministerium, will be held on Monday, November 25 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.  The Ministerium is comprised of clergy and leaders of Christian and Jewish faith communities in Scotch Plains-Fanwood, as well as leaders of organizations, such as the Jewish Community Center and YMCA, SPF School District, and the elected officials and staff of Fanwood and Scotch Plains municipal governments.

The interfaith Thanksgiving service, which is open to the community, has been a longstanding tradition for more than 30 years.  The various houses of worship take turns hosting the service, which features special music, readings, liturgy, and prayer.  Music will be provided by a combined choir from congregations and the community.

"Each year, the Community Thanksgiving Service is a meaningful way to celebrate Thanksgiving and express our gratitude for our community that works together and  worships together," said Cantor Matthew Axelrod of Congregation Beth Israel and  current president of the Ministerium.
