Plays in the Park is hosting JB's Harmonica A New Children's Musical featuring the songs of John B. Sebastian and the Lovin' Spoonful
In 1993 John Sebastian wrote a children's book called JB's HARMONICA that told the story of a young bear - JB - whose dad is a famous classical harmonica player. One day dad presents JB with a harmonica of his own, but JB is not sure he wants to follow in his dad's footsteps despite the encouragement of his music teacher. He might prefer to join a jug band and play contemporary music with his two friends Fuzzy and Panda, and win the local talent contest against Grizzly, who challenges them to beat his rock band. It doesn't hurt that JB has a crush on Fuzzy, of course.
The musical is filled with songs that every parent will know: "DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC?", "SUMMER IN THE CITY", "WHAT A DAY FOR A DAYDREAM", "YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO BE SO NICE", "DID YOU EVER HAVE TO MAKE UP YOUR MIND?" JB learns what it takes to "be his own man, or should we say, bear" and the story of this lesson is charming, funny and good for "kids of all ages".
