"Outsider Art" Opening October 30 in Scotch Plains

An exhibition of folk, primitive, naïve and
visionary art opens Wednesday, October 30th, from 5 to 9:00 at 373
Park Ave in Scotch Plains, NJ.

The show is being presented by collectors Barbara
Brown and Patricia Wadsley of Outsider Artists.net.

The exhibit features work by emerging and established artists from North America and around the world.
Outsider Art is "raw, eye-catching and vibrant," says Wadsley. It's a
term first used in 1972 by art critic Roger Cardinal to describe artists who
live and work far outside urban mainstream art centers and are therefore not
bound by the conventions of traditional art and the rules of the market
place.

Today Outsider Art is going strong. New artists,
tucked away in distant parts of the country and the world, are still choosing
to make art their own way. The majority of the work that is being shown at this
exhibit has been created by artists located in rural areas of North
America; there are also pieces from Canada, France, Spain, Israel,
and Poland.

Collectors Barbara Brown and Patricia Wadsley hope
to bring these artists to a wider audience.
