FINAL HOME MEET FOR FANWOOD-SCOTCH PLAINS YMCA GYMNASTICS TEAMS

In their final home meet of the regular season, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Gymnastic ‘A’ and ‘B’ Division teams hosted teams from South Mountain and Somerset Valley YMCAs on Saturday, April 5, 2014.  This was a bittersweet event for the four graduating seniors from the FSPY team and their parents.  Kacie Bumiller, Marissa DiBella, Heather Mullen and Meghan Yessman will head off to college next year, wrapping up long careers at FSPY.  Having begun in the program as early as 3 years old, it goes without saying that these girls and their families will be deeply missed by Coaches and gymnasts alike.  At the conclusion of the meet, teammates presented the seniors with bouquets of flowers.

Senior Kacie Bumiller was the only representative of the FSPY team competing Level 9.  Bumiller captured top honors on both Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise and is looking forward to the upcoming Championship season.

Senior Marissa DiBella was awarded 3rd place on Balance Beam in the Level 8 competition.  Seniors Heather Mullen and Meghan Yessman were not able to compete in Saturday’s meet.  Also competing Level 8, Lauren Lockfeld placed 2nd All Around.  Lockfeld supported this placement with a 1st place win on Uneven Bars, 2nd on Vault and 3rd on Floor Exercise.  Abigail Fontana brought home 3rd place on Vault.

The ‘B’ Division gymnasts competed in two age groups.  12 and under, Ava McKenzie, received 1st place All Around.   McKenzie also was awarded 1st place on Floor Exercise, 2nd on Uneven Bars and Balance Beam and 3rd on Vault.  Anna Decker and Lenore Ferguson also competed in the 12 and under age group.

Competing in the 13 and over age group, Kristy Cerini enjoyed a great meet capturing 1st place All Around.  Cerini also earned 1st place on Vault, Uneven Bars, and Floor Exercise and 3rd on Balance Beam.  Rachel Tang captured 2nd place All Around.  Her solid performances earned her 1st on Balance Beam and 2nd place on Vault, Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise.  Paige Hoblitzell brought home 3rd place on Vault.  Anya Szewczuk rounded out the team’s 13 and over contingent.
