The Greater Plainfield Habitat for Humanity (GPHFH ) is currently seeking applicants for a new home it plans to build on Grant Avenue in Plainfield. Anyone interested in possible ownership of this 4 bedroom property is advised to attend an orientation session on Sunday, August 29, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Habitat for Humanity office at 2 Randolph Road, Plainfield, NJ.
To be considered, applicants must have lived in the Greater Plainfield area, defined as the City of Plainfield and the municipalities of Fanwood, Scotch Plains, Westfield, North Plainfield, South Plainfield, Dunellen, and Piscataway, for at least one year. Applicants for the home, which requires occupancy by three to six persons, must have a minimum household income of $45,000. The selected Habitat partner family must demonstrate the ability to repay the 20-year interest-free mortgage provided by Habitat. In addition, partner families must attend a series of courses in home ownership and financial management and be willing to invest 250 hours of "sweat equity" per adult in the household in the construction of their home and other Habitat homes.
