The Mobile World Congress: What's It Mean for Our Cell Phones?

Mobile congress in Spain...a way to begin the conversation on what's coming in the way of iPhones for us and our cars.

The Mobile World Congress is taking place this week in Barcelona, Spain where the largest telephone manufacturers are there to present their latest in telephone inventions and capabilities.

Nokia, Intel, Samsung, and others not necessarily known for their phone development, have joined the competition and are also there (Firefox,Hewlett-Packard and IBM).

The competition is severe.

Double screen telephones, telephones with three times their graphic capabilities while using less energy, phones that work across multiple bands and regions, retro phones with batteries that last up to 35 hours -which is opening the door for us to carry two or three phones. One to put in the globe compartment in case we run out of power and the other our primary phone.

There’s even a phone designed for senior citizens in the old flip style but with larger keys.

And, Olloclip revealed a phone geared for young teens and young adults with a camera lens that can quickly add fish-eye, wide angle and other capabilities.

The Lumia 720 with a 1.3-megapixel camera that supports Skype HD is also catering to the younger crowd with its large screen and photo-editing tools that include on the spot editing --a sort of Photoshop at your fingertips-- to whiten teeth, enlarge the eyes, and give the skin a softer glow.

Our cars will also be transformed into high internet, audio and video mobile machines that can be tracked via our phones.  Huawei’s 3G mobile hot spot and its diagnostic box will allow tracking of the car and the driver’s habits.

There are also new wireless earphones with sound-carrying foam.

The Mobile World Congress is on until February 28 and it’s an adventure trying to keep up with all the new products they are presenting.

Try it for yourself at these various reports from the front.
