Champs! Girls Soccer Defends Union County Title With Win Over Cranford

Raiders, who have reached the final every year since 2005, post shutout victory.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High girls soccer team has done it again: In a 1-0 victory over Cranford on Sunday in the Union County Tournament final, the team secured its status as the top team in the county once again.

"This season we have a young and inexperienced team," coach Kevin Ewing told Patch before the game. "Even though we have a lot of youth and inexperience, the girls are playing pretty well. The strength of the team is the speed and possession style of soccer the girls play."

Both teams came into the game undefeated. The winning goal was scored by Junior Tori Baliatico, who has led the team in goals this season, on a pass from senior Kelly Yeager, reports the Star-Ledger.

The girls varsity team has seen the UCT final every year since 2005, and has won or tied every year except for a 2009 loss to Cranford. This is the team's fourth straight title.
