This Week Ahead: Week of Monday, December 5

Every Monday, Patch highlights what's happening in Scotch Plains and Fanwood this week.

On Monday, December 5, Carolers will be traveling through the streets of Fanwood and Scotch Plains to raise money for , a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance for local children who cannot afford the medical care they need. Scotch Plains Police will be taking part in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign beginning Monday, November 5. .

Scotch Plains Fanwood High School will be playing against Summit on Monday, December 5, at 6p.m as part of the 29th Annual George T. Cron High School Hockey Tournament at the Warinanco Ice Skating Center in Roselle. Seven of the best high school hockey teams in New Jersey will compete at the Warinanco rink, located in Warinanco Park, a facility of the Union County Department of Parks and Community Renewal.

On Wednesday, December 7, award winning author and illustrator, Tedd Arnold will visit Coles School.

On Thursday, December 8, a public comment and input session will be held from 11 to 12:30 noon in Room 202 of the Scotch Plains Municipal Building to discuss the upcoming 2012 Municipal Budget. The Municipal Building is located at 430 Park Avenue.

Luminaries are now available for purchase from the Fanwood Scotch Plains Rotary Club and will continue to be sold until Friday, December 24. Kits include a candle and a paper bag and are prices at 50 cents apiece for fifty or more kits, or 60 cents apiece for smaller amounts. Sand to ballast the bags is available at the Fanwood garage as well, with help from members of the Boy Scouts of America who will be on hand to help load the sand into one’s trunk. Residents can pick up these kits at the Rotary’s location on North Avenue in Fanwood just east of Martine Avenue. (Set your GPS to Fanwood Place or Manfra Way, Fanwood 07023.) Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., except Dec. 24, which is 9am to noon only.
