Eva Longoria Stumps For Cory Booker On Election Eve

Booker's opponents for the U.S. Senate seat also added some juice to their last-minute campaigning.

Cory Booker added some star power to his last-minute campaigning in his bid to be the next U.S. Senator from New Jersey, while the other Democratic contenders added a little steam of their own ahead of Tuesday's primary election.

"Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria stumped for Booker at a rally of about 150 on the steps of Plainfield Borough Hall at an afternoon event. The 38-year-old Texan also was expected to rally the Booker faithful at a Newark event later Monday evening.

Longoria praised Booker's attentiveness, his compassion and his effectiveness as a leader in a short speech.

"I've never met a person who is more dedicated to public service," Longoria said. "His compassion supersedes his intelligence."

Longoria, 38, is no stranger to politics. She served as a co-chair of President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign and in March she supported Los Angles School District candidate Kate Anderson for a school board seat.

Other Democrats facing Booker in Tuesday’s special primary election were on the move in the hours before polling begins.

State Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34)picked up the endorsement of the Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey.

"We are proud to stand up and support Sheila Oliver's candidacy in the U.S. Senate Democratic Primary race," WPCNJ President Liz Murray said in a release. "As dedicated legislator and glass ceiling breaker, Sheila has demonstrated her commitment to issues important to women and families like co-sponsoring the law to create the Department of Children and Families and would continue to bring her passion and advocacy to her work in Washington."

U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12), who was scheduled to appear on The Colbert Report on Comedy Central Monday night, also scored a big endorsement from the National Organization for Women.

"In sharp contrast to some of the other candidates in the primary race, Holt has a record of leadership on women’s and progressive issues," NOW-NJ PAC Chair Jennifer Armiger said in a release. "He has been willing to stand up and defend the rights of women, the LGBTQI community, and the hardworking voters in his district, even when it has meant challenging the political status quo."

And U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6) was endorsed by 15 clergy leaders at an event in Newark on Friday.

"I am incredibly honored and humbled to receive such enthusiastic support from some of the most respected leaders in New Jersey’s faith community," Pallone said in a release. "No one knows better the importance of the issues facing our communities than our religious leaders. It is impossible to overstate the value of the work they do to help their communities through their charities and ministries."
