Christopher Academy Announces New Head Of School

Christopher Academy of Scotch Plains and Westfield announces the appointment of Jennifer Iannaconi as their new Head of School.  Mrs. Iannaconi’s 25-year association with the school began as a teacher at our Westfield campus.  She earned her Montessori pre-school certification from the St. Nicholas Centre, London, and a Montessori Administrator’s credential from CMTE (Center for Montessori Teacher Education).    Mrs. Iannaconi had served as a lecturer in the Christopher Academy Teacher Education Program.

Most recently Mrs. Iannaconi was Director of Infant/Toddler Education at Twin Parks Montessori School, New York City, and prior was Head of School at Westmount Montessori School in Mendham, New Jersey.  She is an active member of the American Montessori Society.  Mrs. Iannaconi graduated from Pace University, New York, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from New York University, New York.

It was while working in a traditional pre-school setting that she was first introduced to the holistic approach to education as set forth by Maria Montessori in 1906 at the first Casa dei Bambini in Rome, Italy.  This led her to take her first overlay course in Montessori materials and began what came to be essentially her life’s work.  Mrs. Iannaconi has a very strong belief in and dedication to the Montessori philosophy and to the Christopher Academy.  She states, “I am so very excited to be back at Christopher Academy to serve the children and their families.  I have long considered the school my home away from home.”

Christopher Academy maintains premier status as the first Montessori school in new Jersey recently celebrating its 50th anniversary.  The school has a long-standing, well-respected reputation within the Montessori community and community at large owing to the hard work and dedication of its former head, Amelia McTamaney, who sits currently on the Board of Trustees along with Henriette Petersen, former Head of Operations for Christopher Academy.
