Kevin Doesn't Get It!

I have had strong disagreements this year with Kevin on issues ranging from not funding the Special Improvement District, dramatically cutting the library budget, Mr. Underhill’s forced resignation, replacing highly experienced volunteers on boards and commissions with campaign supporters and the replacement of every professional service provider the Township employs (btw…all of which are already blowing holes in the budget). Given the destruction since Kevin took office, we need someone like Mr. Giaimis to bring stability and true leadership back to our town. After all, he was the sixth manager hired in Vernon in less than a year…and has managed to remain there for the past three years because he was able to restore stability.

I understand why Kevin opposed Mr. Giaimis’ selection…Kevin wants to be in charge. Unfortunately for Kevin…our form of government only gives him a few additional ceremonial responsibilities beyond his single vote and authority EQUAL to every other member of the council. If you truly want to be in charge in Scotch Plains…you either apply to be the manager…or you remove the manager and resist hiring one that is strong enough to stand up to the bully tactics.

Unfortunately for Scotch Plains…it is my opinion that our current problems are a direct result of Kevin “being in charge” despite his lack of demonstrated leadership, knowledge and character skills…all of which are needed to do the job well.

For Kevin to take the step of trying to poison the well before Mr. Giaimis even starts here in Scotch Plains is not only divisive, but in my opinion also shows the petty nature of his character. Perhaps Kevin’s inherent character flaws are the reason why two of his previous party members and elected running mates (now maybe all three) have quickly and decisively distanced themselves from him soon after taking office. Jeff Strauss, Mickey Marcus and now Colleen Gialanella are all good people who want what is best for the residents of Scotch Plains. Kevin has once again proven himself to be a destructive force for real progress in Scotch Plains…his character assassination of Mr. Giaimis only demonstrates that fact most clearly to the rest of us.

We can definitely do better!!!
