Dear Incoming 8th Grader (and Parents and Guardians),

Find out what's happening in Scotch Plains-Fanwoodwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

This coming year is an important step toward your academic success. We anticipate a year of tremendous learning, growth, and maturity. Imagine, in little more than a year, you will be entering high school!

As many of you know – whether you have an illustrious career in professional sports or you’re simply an 8th grader here at Park – your team performs best when it is prepared for the season ahead. To that end, in order to get you ready for your upcoming classes, we are recommending that you come to school on September 9h with the following materials. In addition, we ask that you continually supply these materials throughout the school year.

 All Classes

English ·         A 3-ring binder (at least 1-inch) to use for English only ·         A pack of lined white composition paper hole punched

·         One hard cover composition notebook (no spirals/like “old    school” marble)

·         A folder in the binder·         A package of Post-It notes

This binder is strictly for social studies. The sections are to be labeled: Reference, Notes, Writing and Graded Work. ·         A folder with pockets. You will keep this in the front of your binder; it should be 3-hole punched.·         Lined 3-hole punched paper, which you will use for taking notes. Always keep some blank sheets of lined paper in the Notes section of your binder.·         A blue or black ink pen, a sharpened pencil with eraser, and a highlighter.·         A small set of colored pencils (you may keep these at home).·         A jumbo size book sox or a sturdy paper bag to cover your textbook.

If your child is better organized using one or two large 3” binders with dividers for each class, that is also admissible.

This has gotten out of control. Any teacher I ask, cannot say why all these items are required or why the school budget doesn't cover this either. What would happen if I sent my son with a pencil and a notebook only?

I just don't understand where my many thousands of property tax dollars go to.
