Armed Robbers Escape Westfield Ave. Quick Chek

Police responded to an armed robbery at 12:30 a.m. this morning at the Quick Chek on Westfield Avenue in Scotch Plains.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. this morning, Police responded to the scene of an armed robbery at the Quick Check on Westfield Avenue in Scotch Plains. No one was injured but the two assailants fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash from the cash register.

Police responded after receiving a 911 call from the Quick Check manager. Police Officer Lavery was first to respond to the scene. At the time of the robbery, there were two employees in the store and no civilians present.

Detective Lieutenant Brian Donnelly reported that “two young looking, white or Hispanic males with faces covered produced a handgun and demanded money.” No shots were fired. Police canvased the area but were unable to determine if there was a getaway car or where one might have been stationed.

Although no one was physically hurt, Donnelly stated that the two employees are “shaken” by the event.

“To be a victim of a crime is a tragic event. You’re trying to do your job and then two guys show up with a handgun demanding money. It’s a scary situation,” Donnelly stated.
