Blotter: $2,000 in Jewelry Stolen from Scotch Plains Home

Police activity from July 26 through Aug. 2.

A resident of Ramapo Way reported being a victim of burglary last Tuesday. She stated that sometime during the morning, an unknown suspect or suspects entered her home through an unlocked door, police said. Once inside, the suspect or suspects removed about $2,000 in jewelry. Police are investigating.

The manager of a swim club reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that an unknown suspect or suspects damaged a gate leading to the pool's pump house.

A resident of East Second Street reported being a victim of fraud. He stated that he refinanced his house in February. Since that time, he said, he noticed that an unknown suspect or suspects took out a home equity line of credit on his house. The suspect or suspects have charged about $10,000 on the credit line.

Wednesday, July 28:

A resident of Michael Lane reported being a victim of theft. He stated that sometime during the day, an unknown suspect or suspects entered his home and removed several thousand dollars in cash. There was no sign of a forced entry.

 

Thursday, July 29:

The head groundskeeper of a Scotch Plains-Fanwood grammar school reported that criminal mischief had occurred at the school's baseball field. He stated that an unknown suspect or suspects drove over the field with a motor vehicle, causing damage.

Friday, July 30:

Police arrested Terrell Peterson, 24, of Somerset, for a $500 outstanding warrant issued by the Newark court. Officers stopped Peterson for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

A resident of West Broad Street reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that sometime in the morning, an unknown suspect or suspects scratched the side of his vehicle, which was parked in front of his house.

Police arrested David Contreras, 27, of Newark for a $350 outstanding warrant issued by the Fanwood court. Officers stopped Contreras on South Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Saturday, July 31:

Police arrested David Gardner, 43, of Hillside for a $420 outstanding warrant issued by the Trenton court. Officers stopped Gardner on Route 22 for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Sunday, Aug. 1:

Police arrested Tiffany Fuller, 33, of Irvington for a $567 outstanding warrant issued by the East Orange court. Officers stopped Larkin on Route 22 for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Police arrested David Basilio-Zapata, of Newark, for a $114 outstanding warrant issued by the East Orange court. Officers stopped Basilio-Zapata on South Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Police arrested Gordon Phelps, of Cranford for driving while intoxicated. Officers stopped Phelps for a motor vehicle violation and smelled the odor of alcohol. After failing several field sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
