Blotter: Car Burglaries Top Scotch Plains Police Reports

Police activity in the township April 25-29.

The is investigating three vehicle burglaries that occurred between April 25 and April 29, in addition to the that police say took place between April 26 and 27. 

All told, residents of Brookside Drive, Gallagher Avenue, Golf Street, Karen Court, Lake Avenue and Wood Road reported being victims of burglary. All of their cars were unlocked, and the suspect or suspects reportedly took change and cash from the vehicles. 

The incidents remain under investigation. The police department reminds all residents to lock their vehicles.

Monday, April 25:

  • Police arrested Alex Paredes-Cisneros, 39, of Plainfield, for a $500 outstanding warrant issued by the North Plainfield court. Officers stopped Paredes-Cisneros for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Jamie Scott, 30, of Plainfield, for a $1,000 outstanding warrant issued by the Irvington court. Officers stopped Scott for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Samba Marcelin, 30, of Linden, for a $580 outstanding warrant issued by the Elizabeth court. Officers stopped Marcelin for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Tuesday, April 26:

  • Police arrested Francoise Chanoine, 32, of Scotch Plains, for a $580 outstanding warrant issued by the Elizabeth court. Officers stopped Marcelin for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • A resident of Rahway Road reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects damaged his mailbox.

Wednesday, April 27:

  • The manager of a Westfield Avenue store reported being a victim of theft. He stated that three individuals entered the store and removed several items without paying. It is undetermined how many items were taken.

Thursday, April 28:

  • A resident of Spruce Mill Lane reported being a victim of fraud. He stated that he was notified that his tax return was mailed to Texas without his authorization.
