Blotter: Drug, DWI and Attempted Burglary Arrests Top Busy Week for Scotch Plains

Police activity in the township March 1-7.

The reported making eight arrests between March 1 and March 7. The tally includes two drug arrests, two for driving while intoxicated and another for attempted burglary, which was previously reported . 

Here are the police reports: 

Tuesday, March 1:

  • A resident of Harding Road reported being a victim of harassment. He stated that he got into a heated verbal argument with his neighbor, and that his neighbor now yells at him. 
  • A resident of Kevin Road stated that he was assaulted by an acquaintance while he was getting into his vehicle. It remains unknown what the dispute was over.

Thursday, March 3:

  • Police arrested Adam Augustin, 20, of Newark, for a $215 outstanding warrant issued by the Irvington court. Officers stopped Augustin for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

  • Police arrested William Davis, 42, of Flanders, for a $315 outstanding warrant issued by the Roxbury court. Officers stopped Davis for a motor vehicle violation on East Second Street and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released. 
  • Police arrested Elliot Mazon, 39, of Irvington, for a $1,000 outstanding warrant issued by the Irvington court. Officers stopped Mazon for a motor vehicle violation on North Avenue and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Robert Kirenke, 19, of Mountainside, for possession of marijuana. Officers stopped Krienke for a motor vehicle violation, smelled the odor of marijuana and after further investigation, placed Krienke under arrest. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Sahardeliz Yantin, 21, of Everitts Avenue in Scotch Plains, for obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud. Officers conducted an investigation into Yantin after receiving a complaint that she was obtaining prescription drugs with a fraudulent doctor's note. They placed her under arrest and transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released. 

Saturday, March 5:

  • A resident of Muir Terrace reported being a victim of theft. He stated that sometime in the afternoon, an unknown suspect or suspects stole his bicycle, which had been left unlocked. The bicycle was valued at about $400.
  • A resident of Evergreen Avenue reported being a victim of fraud. She stated that she sold an item over the internet, and that the buyer paid for the item with a fraudulent check.

Sunday, March 6:

  • A resident of Country Club Lane reported being a victim of attempted burglary. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects attempted to enter his vehicle, which was parked in the street. 
  • Police arrested Darren Henderson, 22, of Watchung, for driving while intoxicated. Officers stopped Henderson for a motor vehicle violation on Westfield Avenue and, while speaking with him, smelled the odor of alcohol. After he failed several field sobriety tests, they placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Andrew Sanderson, 37, of Avanel, for drive-in while intoxicated. Officers stopped Sanderson for a motor vehicle violation on Lake Avenue and, while speaking with him, smelled the odor of alcohol. After he failed several field sobriety tests, they placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
